East Fremantle Junior Football Club Y12s have won the 2014 Southern Conference Grand Final at Shark Park this afternoon, defeating Melville by nine points in a close contest. Final Score:
East Fremantle 10.6.66 defeated Melville 9.3.57
The coin toss was won by Melville and they elected to kick to the western end of Shark Park. The ball was bounced to start the game, and within a minute Melville had kicked the first goal of the game. The Power answered almost immediately to even up the scores, and the two teams continued to trade goals in an open and end to end contest. Both teams were shooting straight, and the score at the end of the first quarter was EFJFC 3.0.18 to Melville 4.0.24
The second quarter ascendency belonged to the Power, with the majority of play in their forward half. However Melville were very effecient, and accurate, on their forays forward, and this kept the contest tight. East Freo Power Y5s Blue were crowned winners of the 2014 Lightning Carnival held at Winnacott Reserve on Sunday 31st August. After three tight wins, and a draw against Booragoon Blue/Red combined, East Freo were called back to Winnacott for the Grand Final against Booragoon Blue/Red as the two highest ranked teams at the end of the day. Whilst having most of the play in the first half, the Power were down by four points at the half time break. In the second half they switched up a gear, to score 2.2.14 to 0.0.0, and take out the Trophy. The boys were pumped having won through last years Round Robin, but getting pipped by Booragoon having a higher score!
Well done too, to East Freo Power Y4s White in making the Grand Final from 16 teams, but getting beaten for the trophy by Willetton. Awesome job by the Y4s crew, in organising the carnival and raising over $4,000 from the day.
The East Freo Power Y6s Blue/White combined team, were runners-up to Bullcreek Leeming Y6s Bulls in a hard fought grand final, and did the jumper proud. They made the final on the back of an awesome comeback in the preliminary final against one of the Booragoon teams.
