Welcome to Season 2017

On behalf of the committee, I’d like to wish all members of the East Fremantle Junior Football Club a happy new year! To those new to our club or to those progressing from the Auskick program, welcome.

A huge thanks also to the outgoing President Travis French for his massive contribution to the club as President for five years and to the 2016 committee members.

The Year Ahead

2017 promises to be a ground-breaking season for our club, with two exciting initiatives being launched. This year East Fremantle and Attadale junior clubs have collaborated to establish combined girls football teams. It is envisaged we will establish at least one girls team in the Year 4-6 and the Year 7-9 competition. Given early responses, we should easily achieve these objectives.

The second new initiative is an all-abilities Auskick program called Starkick which will sit alongside the regular Auskick program. This will be only the second Starkick program in Perth and the only program south of the river. More information can be found here: eastfreopower.com.au/starkick

Another change this season is the extension of the Conference Model from Year 10 teams onwards, down to Year 8 teams. Ie Year 8 teams onwards will play in a combined East and South Fremantle district (now known as Metro South), in multiple graded divisions . This should result in closer, more competitive games. For those registering for the 2017 season, Year 3 –Year 12 registration will take place during February (except Auskick). Auskick registrations will commence later in February. Team numbers need to be established by the end of February as fixtures will be confirmed in early March. Please follow this link in order to register:

Note that team sizes may be capped as they were last season (we are awaiting confirmation from the District on the cap size), which may mean some teams ‘fill up’ on a first come best dressed basis. Once full we will endeavour to swap players with other clubs in the area to fill teams and ensure no one misses out.

In other news, The Left Bank have offered to hold a community sundowner for our Footy Club on Sunday 19th February. As a key sponsor of our club with VIP Member passes available to all members (you should have received these last season from your team managers but more can be made available on the day), for discounted drinks etc. See you there!

Congratulations to East Fremantle District 16s

At a jumper presentation at Shark Park on 9 March the 40 player East Fremantle District 16s Academy was announced. Players were selected from more than ten clubs including seven players from as far away as Geraldton. Congratulations to six East Fremantle Power players!

The Academy leadership positions were also announced and remarkably three of the four leaders are Power players. The Academy is one step away from the Colts competition which is a great achievement!

The grueling selection involved training and trials all through summer including boot camps and beach sessions. Around seventy players started the journey but several ‘cuts’ occured when hard working and talented players got the grim news that there efforts were unsuccessful. The 16s team will play other WAFL teams through a six game competition in March and April 2016.

Congratulations to the Power’s Nicholas Watson (Captain), Milan Murdoch (Vice Captain), Dillon O’Reilly (Vice Captain), Lachlan Duncanson, Felix Shakelton and Lachlan Armstrong. The Academy’s Team Manager is the Power’s Daniel Richards.
